Aviation Experience Summary

On completion of school Sam joined the Royal Australian Navy and attended the Australian Defence Force Academy. There he graduated from the academy with a Bachelor of Science with a major in Oceanography.

Sam completed Navy Basic Observers Course at RAAF base East Sale in B200 King Air aeroplanes. The course involved learning how to navigate and operate as a crew member in an aircraft in Navy operations, such as maritime surveillance and search and rescue.

After leaving the Navy, Sam spent a (very) short time as an aerial photographer/ navigator, which enabled him to realise that he wanted to train to be a pilot.

Sam completed an instructor rating with Professional Pilot Training after gaining his commercial licence.  Since gaining his initial instructor rating, Sam has progressed from an instructor to now train students for multi-engine ratings, command instrument ratings and aerobatics.  Sam also is responsible for the supervision, delivery and development of all theory up to the ATPL, including IREX.
